B&SR #6

Service History and Technical Data

B&SR #6 was the first Baldwin built locomotive for the railroad and was the sister engine to Sandy River Railroad #16, later SL&RL #8.  Built in 1907 #6 would replace B&SR #2, which was sold to WW&F the same year. In service the locomotive would share many of the rough riding characteristics with #5, an issue which would not be cured until the B&SR purchased Baldwin built #7. #6 would serve faithfully and would transition to B&H #6 in 1930. The locomotive was preferred on light runs compared to the newer and heavier engines #7 and #8. Unfortunately lack of funds in the waning days of the B&H meant #6 would be retired and ultimately scrapped for spare parts in 1938 when no funds were available to fix the engine.
