Historic B&SR Passenger Cars

Bridgton Coaches # 15 & #16

Bridgton coaches #15 "Pondicherry" and #16 "Mt. Pleasant" were built at the Laconia  Car Company of Laconia New Hampshire in 1882 while the B&SR was still under construction. Once delivered both cars would faithfully serve the B&SR and the B&H and would continue to see service until the end of rail operations in Bridgton. Both cars would be purchased by Ellis D. Atwood and would be used on the Edaville Railroad until operations using the historic two-footer equipment ceased in 1991, both cars found their way back to Maine as part of the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum collection. Today #15 continues to operate at MNG in Portland Maine while #16 is stored at the Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Railway Museum in Alna, ME and is used occasionally for charters.

Bridgton Coach #17

Bridgton Coach #17 would be constructed for the B&SR by the Laconia Car Company in 1904  to handle the additional passenger traffic caused by the opening of the Harrison Branch in 1898. It would be dimensionally larger than the previous B&SR coaches and would include decorative stained glass window panes in the car's clerestory  and above the standard windows. The car would serve faithfully until the end of rail operations in Bridgton when it was purchased by Edgar Mead. Mead would eventually sell the car to Ellis D. Atwood and it would go on to serve at the Edaville Railroad for some years until it was unfortunately lost in a fire.
