6-cylinder gasoline Hercules engine determined to be damaged beyond the point of economical restoration.
Radiator and other aspects of the cooling system were found to be in good order and can be used in the rebuild.
Currently the transmission and components thereof need to be inspected to see if they are viable to be reused with a new motor or if it would be more economical to replace the current transmission with a new one.
The board will be selecting a suitable powerplant for #9 following an inspection of the transmission and determining what engine could best make use of the current transmission.
Currently #9 is a 3-foot gauge locomotive
A new motor and if needed new fuel system will be installed.
#9's cab will be rebuilt in order to improve crew ergonomics in the cab
In her current configuration #9 does not have suitable couplers for two-foot rolling stock
