We are very happy to show our plan for our phase one construction. We are currently early in the process of bringing this plan before the Bridgton planning board for approval. This plan would allow us to construct the car shop along with some initial yard trackage.
We are very happy to reveal our finalized overall site plan after working with local survey and engineering firms following some changes to local DEP laws. This particular design includes what our site will look like when construction is completed. While one structure has been lost an overall better flow of the railyard with gentler grades was accomplished and we are happy to keep developing this plan moving forward!
We are very happy to reveal our site plan after months of working with local survey and engineering firms! While some minor adjustments may still be made we are fairly confident this will be the rough look of the new Bridgton railyard.
As an organization this announcement excites us the most. We have purchased former Edaville/Cranrail Corp #2 from the Silver Lake Railroad in Madison, New Hampshire. This 10-ton Plymouth DLH-8 will be restored to operating condition and she will be repainted and renumbered to #9 when that process is completed. The locomotive will additionally have to be re-gauged from three foot to two foot and we are very excited to share news of the progress made as we begin restoration work!
A big shoutout must also be made to the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad which has generously donated a stockpile of 67lb rail to us!
As an organization we are thrilled to say that we have started to clear our land in Bridgton. AT the moment this is limited to the clearing of brush and shrubbery that has grown up on the property but it is the beginnings of bigger things to come. This clearing has allowed us to start work on some additional survey data as we develop a site plan.
As an organization we are thrilled to say that we own land in Bridgton! This is an amazing milestone we hit as a collective board and we looking forward to the future of developing this property into a new living museum and railyard in the town of Bridgton. The community support and outreach has been amazing and we sincerely thank everyone that has helped us get to this point!
A special thank you is in order for the Rolfe Corporation which agreed to the sale of the 5.1 acre plot on Home Run Road in Bridgton. This location is ideal for us, as the original railbed for the B&SR lies just across Sandy Creek from this location.
Our next major milestone was getting our 501c(3) acceptance letter from the IRS. While not the largest accomplishment, it has opened the door to further fundraising efforts moving forward.
The first milestone our organization achieved was in October of 2020, when the Bridgton & Saco River Railroad Museum Inc. became an official business and legal entity. This milestone would mark the beginning of a long journey to return the B&SR to Bridgton.
